Our capital campaign has begun! Brochures and information are available at the office!
The agency is located in a three-story 1904 firehouse within the Red Lion borough. We are including restoration and preservation of the historical significance of the building while up-grading the facility to better serve the community and the programming needs of the agency. Energy efficient and cost effective options are important to our efforts.
A percentage of the capital campaign is designated for a client fund to allow the agency to more readily serve the needs presented, especially in emergency situations.
Architect Dennis Fitzkee and Project Manager Gordon Forbush have developed the plans needed to provide accessible bathrooms on the lower level, as well as renovations to the existing bathroom on the main floor; an elevator, which is needed for accessibility to all three levels of the building, is under discussion.
The Board of Directors has recently awarded Kinsley Construction (York PA) the bid for the necessary renovations and facility upgrades.
Local work teams are still needed for several tasks - some cosmetic, some repairs.
The agency has been awarded a grant in the amount of $13,500 from the Commonwealth of PA - Dept. of Community Development, which will be used for the restroom renovations and additions.
Kids' Kafe (June thru August) - This program supplies each pre-registered child with five brown bag lunches each week during the summer to suppliment their dietary needs and for the convenience of the families, many of whom rely on lower priced lunches during the school year. Kids' Kafe began in 2009 and serves approximately seventy-five children from our client families and community.
Volunteers prepare individual lunch bags from the selection of kid-friendly supplies. A loaf of bread and a package of cheese and/or lunch meat, plus extra peanut butter and jelly, if needed, are added at the time of pick-up. The program is arranged so that the family cam pick-up one box containing five lunches for each child every Monday; extra items are given to the youngsters and moms, as supplies allowed.
Thank you for your donations and support of this program for the past three summers!
Girl Scouts in the Heart of PA presented five sessions for grade-school age girls again this summer. Subjects include safety, hygiene, self-esteem, and similar themes. Six to eight young girls enjoyed the weekly topic, craft, and snack.
Back-to-School supplies and backpacks are currently being distributed to appx.100 youngsters during August. Your donations are appreciated!
